My name is Laurel Owen. In 4th grade I earned a scholarship to study for one year at the Peabody Preparatory School in Baltimore. The teacher I studied with is a friend to this day –after many years of violin lessons from him, both at Peabody and beyond.

The plan, according to my parents, was a career as a professional player. But life gets in the way of plans, especially if you’re young and the plan is not your own. So as I trained in classical violin, I also enjoyed playing dance music from American revolutionary era and traditional music from the UK. And my life took many exciting and unexpected turns as a musician and a performer. I have continued playing my violin, and love it. When you play for pleasure, it takes the competition and stress away from the equation –and what’s left is delight.
